South Shore Skipping Stones
Inclusive, educational, & inviting
I created simple and educational illustrations for South Shore Skipping Stones, a non-profit focused on educating new and pregnant mothers on the importance of oral and overall health.
The name South Shore Skipping Stones comes from the location of the non-profit and their belief that small changes can have a ripple effect. I worked with the three main colors already present in the organization’s brand identity - purple, green, and blue.
My graphics replace images of real mothers and babies, which can be alienating, and represent the interconnected nature and educational mission of the non-profit.
Pregnant Mother
Dr. Tammy Button, the founder of the non-profit, asked me to illustrate the journey of a pregnant mother, to a mother and baby, to the mother interacting with her new baby.
I know that the organization serves a diverse population so I created three main women in an effort to make all mothers feel represented.
Mother and Baby
Channeling the theme of connection and positivity, I created an illustration of the mother with her new baby.
Bacteria transferring activities
Babies aren’t born with the bacteria that causes cavities. Instead, this harmful bacteria can be transferred from a mother cleaning a pacifier with her own mouth, blowing on her babies food, or kissing her child on the mouth.
This illustrates why maternal oral health is just as important for the child as it is for the mother.
A Team of Healthcare Providers
Midwives, family practice doctors, obstetricians, pediatricians, pediatric dentists, and dentists are all critical to maintaining the health of a mother and her baby.
Caries Education
Dental caries, or cavities, are caused by tooth decay. Plaque builds up over time and eventually leads to cavities. This can occur in humans of all ages and highlights the need for adequate oral hygiene.
